Marketing & Promotion
We know that many authors and writers who self publish their books do it for the simple pleasure and satisfaction of putting their words and ideas on paper. Making a lot of money is not usually their primary motive. But there is nothing wrong with wanting to make money on your book, or at the very least wanting to recoup your investment. And we are convinced that if you are willing, with our help, to participate in the marketing and promotion of your book, your chances of walking away with a few dollars in your pocket are better than if you had gone with a trade publisher. How many dollars depends on how hard you, the author, want to hustle. We'll follow your lead and support your efforts in every way we can. And there are many ways we can. Remember, we are printers, so we can design, print and distribute promotional flyers and advance publicity reviews for our writers at a considerable savings. We will help with author press conference and book signings.

PUBLISHING HINTS

The Copyright
Amica stands ready to assist all of our clients with questions and fulfilling this process. All originals written works should be copyrighted, this is a must! To copyright your book, place a notice on the copyright page. Either the word "copyright" and/or the copyright symbol must appear along with the year of first publication and the name of the copyright owner (see the example). You can then elaborate on the "all rights reserved" phrase if you desire. Check other books for accepted variations.

Example: Copyright © 1999 by William Wordsworth, All rights reserved.

Registering the Copyright
Amica stands ready to assist all of our clients with questions and fulfilling this process. In addition, the Library of Congress Catalog Card Number & ISBN numbers Information is available. Amica stands ready to assist all of our clients with questions and fulfilling all of these processes. These numbers are issued prior to publication, and are reserved for books intended for distribution to libraries.

ISBN
If you plan on selling your book in a bookstore, you will probably need to obtain an ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Your ISBN in combination with a bar code is used by bookstores to order and track titles. If requested, we can furnish a bar code of your number at "no charge".

Marketing Your Book
We are ready to benefit our clients with Marketing. Amica has printed/published many books over the passed eleven years and transferred that publishing knowledge and expertise to our clients at "NO COST." Knowing how to prepare galleys, designed special promotional jackets, where and when to send your book for review and finding distribution channels are a few of the advantages which Amica offers to many of our printing clients. Marketing an unknown book by an unknown author can be a challenge, to say the least. Self-publishers generally do not have the contacts, information or the expertise to maneuver their books into the major book selling avenues.

Another stumbling block is quantity vs. cost. Printing 2,500 books is considerably more expensive per book than printing 10,000 books. Therefore, there is less profit in selling books from a short run. Yet gambling on being able to sell 10,000 isn't a good bet either. The general consensus seems to be, print a smaller quantity and hope to break even. Then go into a second printing if warranted. A second printing is less expensive because most of the setup and film costs have already been paid for.

Targeting your audience early will help you in your marketing efforts and goals. Consider whom your readers will be, as well as how many there are and where they may be located. It's often helpful to talk to bookstore owners about your project. They may be interested in handling your book and may have insights regarding the potential market in your subject area.

Some authors deal with subject matter that has a small field of interest. These books are sometimes easier to sell because it's easier to identify the market. For example, a book on rock hunting in Western Washington might be promoted by sending out flyers to rock clubs in the Northwest with better success than trying to work through a mass-market bookstore.
